As we head into the exciting season of baseball playoffs, fans all around are eager to see which teams will battle it out on the field for the championship title. The baseball playoffs are a thrilling time for both players and fans, with each game filled with intense competition and nail-biting moments. If you’re wondering which teams have made it to the playoffs this year, let’s take a closer look at the contenders.
In Major League Baseball (MLB), the playoff format consists of ten teams – five from the American League (AL) and five from the National League (NL). The teams that qualify for the playoffs are determined by their regular-season performance, with division champions and wild card teams securing a spot in the postseason.
In the American League, the division champions are the teams that finish on top of the AL East, AL Central, and AL West divisions. Additionally, two wild card teams with the best records among non-division champions also make it to the playoffs. The wild card teams compete in a one-game playoff to advance to the Division Series.
Likewise, in the National League, the NL East, NL Central, and NL West division champions earn a spot in the playoffs. Two wild card teams with the top records among the non-division champions in the NL also get a chance to compete in the postseason. Similar to the AL, the NL wild card teams face off in a one-game playoff to move on to the Division Series.
The MLB playoffs are divided into several rounds, starting with the Wild Card Games, followed by the Division Series, League Championship Series (LCS), and ultimately, the World Series. The Wild Card Games are a single-elimination round where the two wild card teams from each league battle for a spot in the Division Series.
Moving on to the Division Series, the winners of the Wild Card Games face the top seed in their respective league. The Division Series is a best-of-five format, with the first team to win three games advancing to the next round. The two winners from each league then proceed to the League Championship Series.
The League Championship Series determines the champions of the American League and National League, with the winners earning a spot in the World Series. The World Series is the pinnacle of the MLB playoffs, where the AL champion faces off against the NL champion in a best-of-seven series to determine the overall winner and the recipient of the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy.
