Chicago NWSL Club Rebrands to Chicago Stars FC for 2025
Chicago’s National Women’s Soccer League team is undergoing a significant transformation for the upcoming 2025 season. Formerly known as the Chicago Red Stars, the team has rebranded itself as Chicago Stars FC, unveiling a new name and crest on October 23.
The new primary crest features a narrower shield compared to the previous design, with a top contour inspired by the iconic imagery of the Chicago Theater and Wrigley Field Marquee. The background of the crest is split diagonally between dark blue, symbolizing Chicago at night, and light blue, a tribute to Lake Michigan and the city flag.
Despite the name change, the crest prominently features a red six-pointed star, a nod to the city flag, at the center of a soccer ball surrounded by navy blue stars. The word “STARS” arches at the bottom of the ball, with “CHICAGO” displayed at the top of the shield and “FC” at the bottom.
Laura Ricketts, Executive Chairperson of Chicago Stars FC, emphasized the significance of the red star in the club’s renewed shield. She highlighted the star as a representation of Chicago’s character, embodying qualities such as hard work, perseverance, and diversity. The star also serves as a tribute to the players, past, present, and future, reflecting the club’s values of excellence, transparency, and respect.
In addition to the new crest, a wordmark was released, isolating the “CHICAGO” and “STARS” text with a red six-pointed star underneath. The letters “F” and “C” flank the star in a different font from the crest design.
While the rebrand will officially take effect in the 2025 NWSL season, the Stars will mark the transition during their final regular-season match on November 3 against the Kansas City Current. Fans can already purchase merchandise featuring the new name and crest, including hoodies, T-shirts, beanies, sweatshirts, and scarves from the team’s online store.
Currently, the team sits in sixth place in the 2024 NWSL standings, with the top eight teams qualifying for the playoffs. The playoffs are scheduled for November, with the NWSL Championship game set to take place on November 23 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City. The team is gearing up for an exciting new chapter both on and off the pitch with their rebrand as Chicago Stars FC.
