Red Sox Announce 2025 Uniform Updates: Retiring One Jersey, Introducing New Look

The Boston Red Sox are set to shake up their uniform lineup for the upcoming 2025 regular season. The team’s chief marketing officer, Adam Grossman, has announced that they will be phasing out their blue alternate uniforms in favor of a new City Connect look.

Major League Baseball and Nike allow teams to have four regular uniforms along with the option for a City Connect design. Despite this change, the Red Sox will maintain their traditional home whites and road grays, as well as their red alternate uniforms. The blue alternatives will be retired to make way for the continuation of their original City Connect look, the iconic yellow Boston Marathon-inspired attire.

Grossman explained, “MLB permits clubs with a current City Connect jersey to revamp it after a few seasons. Due to the immense popularity of our yellow uniforms among players and fans, we have decided to retain it as a staple uniform choice going forward. In 2025, we will introduce a new City Connect 2.0 uniform, bidding farewell to our blue alternate jerseys.”

Interestingly, the Red Sox clinched the 2018 World Series title while sporting their blue uniform tops in a memorable Game 5 showdown against the Dodgers.

This isn’t the first time the Red Sox have made changes to their uniforms. Last year, manager Alex Cora outlined a new uniform schedule, designating specific days for different uniform styles. “We’re going to wear red on Fridays, City Connect uniforms on Saturdays, and stick to white for the rest of the week. On the road, expect lots of gray with blue tops on Fridays. We’re implementing a structured approach,” Cora shared with the Boston Herald.

Notably, the yellow Boston Marathon City Connect uniforms garnered attention previously when the Red Sox boasted an impressive 26-7 record while donning them. Cora emphasized that the team would not rely on the yellow uniforms as a quick fix for performance issues, stating, “We cannot depend on yellow whenever we’re not performing well.”

As the 2025 season approaches, fans eagerly anticipate the debut of the Red Sox’s revamped City Connect 2.0 uniforms and the retirement of the beloved blue alternate jerseys, marking a new chapter in the team’s iconic uniform history.
