Fanatics Partners with NHL for Jersey Deal: What to Expect

Fanatics, the sports merchandising giant, has taken over the NHL’s jersey program and is now revolutionizing how fans can access these jerseys. After officially becoming the league’s official uniform supplier, Fanatics has introduced a tradition-oriented approach to the rights, emphasizing player input and preserving the heritage of the jerseys.

The retail sales of NHL jerseys by Fanatics will feature four tiers, each catering to different preferences and budgets. The tiers include:

– Authentic Pro: These jerseys are crafted to the exact specifications used by NHL players, with additional fabric in the lower sleeves. Priced at $425, these jerseys have not been available to fans for the past decade. Initially sold with blank backs, customization options will be offered later.
– Premium: Offering a lighter and more comfortable fit, these jerseys are priced at $180 for blank jerseys and $230 for pre-decorated ones with player names and numbers, featuring embroidered elements.
– Breakaway: A more affordable option, these lightweight jerseys with flexible crests are priced at $135 for blank jerseys and $175 for pre-decorated ones, including some heat-pressed elements.
– Practice: A redesigned retail version of practice jerseys worn by all 32 NHL teams, priced at $120 to resemble what teams use in training camp.

Fanatics’ approach to the NHL jersey rights emphasizes continuity and collaboration with players and teams, in contrast to the significant changes seen in the Nike-led redesign of MLB uniforms this year. The hockey jersey designs and construction are evolving gradually, with input from key stakeholders to maintain the sport’s heritage.

Fanatics has partnered with Quebec-based SP Apparel, a company with nearly 50 years of experience in manufacturing league uniforms. This partnership underscores Fanatics’ commitment to quality and tradition in the production of NHL jerseys.

These developments are part of Fanatics’ 10-year contract with the NHL, signed last year. The focus on uniform design and retail programs reflects the deep connection between fans and team jerseys in hockey culture, making these changes significant for both players and supporters alike.
