Edmonton Oilers Unveil Jersey and Helmet Ads for 2024-25 Season

The Edmonton Oilers, a prominent NHL team, recently announced a significant change to their jerseys. In a move that aligns with the trend of sports teams adding advertisements to their uniforms, the Oilers unveiled their partnership with Play Alberta. Starting from the 2024-25 season, the team will proudly display the Play Alberta logo on their iconic home blue sweaters.

This announcement closely followed a similar decision by the Washington Capitals, who recently struck a deal with TikTok to feature the social media platform’s logo on their road white jerseys. The Play Alberta logo features a stylized star design with the company name prominently displayed below it. The logo, entirely in white, stands out against a royal blue background, creating a visually striking addition to the Oilers’ jerseys. Additionally, the team revealed plans to showcase GameSense’s logo on their home helmets. GameSense is a responsible gaming program managed by Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC).

Stew MacDonald, President & Chief Revenue Officer of OEG Sports & Entertainment, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “We are proud to call Play Alberta the official sportsbook of the Edmonton Oilers. Donning the Play Alberta logo on our iconic home jersey is a testament to our long-term commitment to communities across Oil Country.” Play Alberta, a government-operated iGaming company, utilizes its generated revenue to support the General Revenue Fund, which in turn funds essential programs and services in Alberta.

The Oilers’ decision to incorporate advertising on their jerseys reflects a broader trend in professional sports, where teams seek partnerships with brands to enhance revenue streams and engage with their fan base. By strategically choosing partners like Play Alberta and GameSense, the Oilers not only generate additional income but also align themselves with organizations that promote responsible gaming practices and contribute to the community’s well-being.

This move by the Edmonton Oilers signifies a new chapter in the team’s visual identity, blending tradition with modern marketing strategies. As sports teams continue to explore innovative ways to connect with fans and sponsors, jersey advertisements have become a prominent feature in the evolving landscape of professional sports branding. The partnership with Play Alberta and GameSense not only adds a fresh look to the Oilers’ uniforms but also underscores the team’s commitment to supporting responsible gaming initiatives and community welfare.
