Pwhl Reveals Identities of 6 Teams for Second Season Kickoff

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced new team names and logos for its Inaugural Six teams as they gear up for their second season. The unveiling of these new identities took place on September 9, with the PWHL partnering with New York-based creative agency Flower Shop to create logos that reflect the fans, players, and cities of each team.

Amy Scheer, PWHL Senior Vice President of Business Operations, expressed excitement about the new team identities, emphasizing the importance of creating authentic brands that resonate with the local communities and unite the professional women’s hockey community. Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, highlighted the significance of the new names and logos in capturing the energy of the athletes and enhancing the teams’ presence in their respective cities.

Each of the six teams retained their primary colors from the previous season, with some incorporating additional colors into their new identities. The Boston Fleet, symbolizing unity and strength in numbers, features a logo with a ship’s anchor forming a bold “B” shape, representing momentum and resilience.

The Minnesota Frost, embracing the cold climate of the state, boasts a logo with a forward-charging “F” design that mirrors the sharpness of icicles, symbolizing endurance and intensity on the ice. In Montréal, the Victoire de Montréal pays homage to the city’s rich hockey history with an art deco-inspired logo that incorporates elements like the victory sign and the fleur-de-lis.

The New York Sirens draw inspiration from the city’s energy and pace, with a logo that reflects the urban landscape and constant hum of the city. The Ottawa Charge, inspired by the city’s motto of “Advance,” embodies dynamic growth and forward progress, symbolized by an energetic logo with spikes radiating forward.

Finally, the Toronto Sceptres, representing royalty and power, features a logo with interlocking gold initials and a sceptre, symbolizing strength and excellence. The new team names and logos aim to deepen the connection between the teams and their local communities while embodying the spirit of each club.

The PWHL’s new identities do not align with the names previously trademarked by the league in 2023. Gear and accessories featuring the new identities are now available on the PWHL’s official online shop, with redesigned jerseys set to be unveiled closer to the start of the 2024-25 season.

As the league prepares for its upcoming season, the schedule is yet to be announced. The Minnesota team clinched the first-ever Walter Cup championship in May 2024, marking a historic moment for the PWHL. Stay tuned for more updates as the league gears up for another exciting season of professional women’s hockey.
