Ottawa’s PWHL Team Charges Up with Electric New Name

The Ottawa professional women’s hockey team is gearing up to make a significant impact on both the city and the league with its newly announced name, the Ottawa Charge. The unveiling of names and logos for all six Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) franchises marks a pivotal moment following their initial season of competition under their respective city names.

Opting for a vibrant color scheme of red, grey, and yellow, Ottawa’s logo features a stylized, spinning O that conveys a sense of motion and dynamism. The choice of ‘Charge’ as the team’s name holds a special significance, paying homage to the city itself and its motto “Advance – Ottawa – En Avant.” This nod reflects Ottawa’s continuous state of growth and progress as Canada’s Capital City.

According to a league press release, the logo aims to capture the energy and electricity of both the team and its dedicated fan base. The redesigned team website teases “high-voltage hockey” and encourages visitors to “join the surge,” hinting at the electrifying experience the Ottawa Charge aims to deliver on and off the ice.

While trademark applications last fall hinted at the possibility of the team being named the Ottawa Alert, the final decision settled on the powerful and dynamic persona of the Ottawa Charge. Fans can anticipate the reveal of new team uniforms closer to the commencement of the upcoming season, which will see each team playing 30 games instead of the previous 24. As of now, the league has not released the official schedule for the upcoming season.

The rebranding of the Ottawa team as the Ottawa Charge signifies a new chapter in the city’s professional women’s hockey journey, promising an exciting blend of athleticism, passion, and a commitment to advancing the sport within the league and the community. With its bold identity and vision for the future, the Ottawa Charge is poised to leave a lasting impression on the capital city and the PWHL.
