National Lacrosse League Signs On-Field Apparel Partnership with Castore
The National Lacrosse League (NLL), recognized as North America’s premier box lacrosse league, has recently inked a fresh partnership deal with Castore, a prominent sportswear company based in Manchester, England. Under this agreement, Castore is set to become the official performance apparel provider for the league.
This collaboration signifies Castore’s inaugural league-wide apparel contract with a North American sports league. As part of the deal, Castore will supply jerseys at the NLL’s upcoming draft and will outfit teams with on-field uniforms starting from the 2024-25 season. Notably, this marks the NLL’s first comprehensive uniform partnership in over a decade. Previously, Reebok had been outfitting NLL teams from 2006 to 2013, after which individual teams pursued their own uniform agreements.
Established by brothers Tom and Phil Beahon in 2015, Castore has gained recognition for its partnerships with Formula 1 teams such as Red Bull and McLaren. These collaborations have garnered increased attention due to the rising popularity of Formula 1 and the success of current F1 champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
NLL league commissioner Brett Frood expressed enthusiasm about the alignment of values and mindset between the NLL and Castore. He praised Castore’s commitment to innovation and premium product creation, emphasizing a shared goal of elevating their respective brands through the partnership.
Despite facing some criticism for uniform performance in the past, including feedback from Aston Villa’s clubs, Castore continues to maintain partnerships with various soccer clubs like Everton and Bayer Leverkusen, as well as with Hendrick Motorsports, USA Rugby, and the national cricket teams of England and Wales.
Noteworthy among Castore’s investors is tennis legend Andy Murray, who sported the brand’s apparel from 2019 until his retirement last month at the Paris Olympics.
Tom Beahon, co-founder of Castore, expressed pride in supplying high-performance sportswear league-wide, highlighting the opportunities the collaboration presents for teams and athletes worldwide to experience Castore’s premium quality and performance.
The NLL, which commenced operations in 1987, finds itself at a pivotal juncture as it endeavors to expand its indoor lacrosse fanbase, particularly beyond its traditional strongholds in the Eastern seaboard markets. Often likened to a blend of the NHL and NBA styles, the NLL aims to position itself as the next major league, leveraging the appeal of popular indoor sports to attract new enthusiasts to the game.
With nine teams based in the U.S. and six in Canada, including the recently relocated Ottawa Black Bears, the NLL is actively seeking to broaden its reach. Following the closure of the Dallas-Fort Worth franchise, the league recently conducted a dispersal draft, reflecting its commitment to evolving and adapting to the changing landscape of professional lacrosse.
