Team USA Unveils New Olympic Uniforms
Ralph Lauren has a longstanding tradition of outfitting Team USA at the Olympics and Paralympics, having designed uniforms for athletes at nine consecutive Games since 2008. This summer, the renowned fashion brand is set to bring its iconic Americana and preppy athleisure style to Paris, the esteemed fashion capital of the world.
The new collection for the upcoming Olympics draws inspiration from the dynamic and vibrant host city, reflecting a patriotic spirit through a signature palette of red, white, and blue. David Lauren, Ralph Lauren’s chief branding and innovation officer, expressed pride in dressing Team USA, highlighting the collaborative process with athletes and the Olympic Committee to create a collection that embodies the essence of America.
The aim is for athletes to represent American culture, leadership, and sportsmanship on a global stage, embodying the ethos that Ralph Lauren encapsulates and brings to life. The brand’s vision is for athletes to feel like ambassadors of the American dream, showcasing the best of American fashion and values to a worldwide audience.
At the opening ceremony, Team USA athletes will sport a classic navy Ralph Lauren blazer with red and white accents, paired with a striped Oxford shirt, navy knit tie, and tapered light denim jeans as they make their grand entrance down the River Seine towards the Trocadéro. The closing ceremony ensembles feature denim prominently, with athletes clad in a racecar-style jacket adorned with USA patch detailing, a classic striped polo, and crisp white jeans.
Paralympic swimmer Jamal Hill, a bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Games, praised the collection for blending classic American style with contemporary elements. He humorously noted his excitement to wear the closing ceremony look to an all-white party, lamenting that the season for all-white attire would be ending upon his return.
Flag bearers at the opening and closing ceremonies will receive customized versions of the outfits in different colorways to ensure they stand out. Additionally, athletes will be provided pieces from a special “Villagewear” collection, paying homage to the Athletes’ Village. The line will feature classic Ralph Lauren pieces such as jackets, sweaters, rugby shirts, knits, joggers, and color-blocked tees, with the introduction of a “100% recycled” polo shirt this year.
Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee, commended Ralph Lauren for creating designs that capture American style while embodying the spirit and pride of Team USA. The iconic apparel serves as a symbol of unity and inspiration for both the team and the millions of fans supporting them throughout the Games.
